SOURCES FOR SOCIAL COSTS

1. $9.9 million

9 (# of death sentences since 2000) x $1.1 million (additional cost of a death penalty trial) = $9.9 million

9 death sentences since 2000

The 9 death sentences from San Diego County are in the "Condemned Inmate List" from CDCR. Since the inmates are alphabetical by last name, one will have to manually paste the data into a Microsoft Excel sheet and sort the data by county, and then again data sort by year. 9 death sentences since 2000, also indicates an average of about 1 death sentence per year.
